Mr Kieren Darcy is a highly qualified, professional, caring Consultant Eye Surgeon specialising in corneal, cataract and refractive surgery, committed to patient-focused care. He works privately at Vision Care Clinic and in the NHS as the Head of Corneal and Refractive Surgery at the much respected Bristol Eye Hospital, part of the University of Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.
Kieren began as a General Surgeon and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons England. He specialised in Ophthalmology in 2007, training in London and the South-West of England and was the winner of the revered Harcourt Medal during his training. This acclaimed award is bestowed on the Ophthalmologist who performs top of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Consultant examinations. He has also completed two subspecialist fellowships in Corneal and Refractive Surgery, first in Bristol and then at the highly acclaimed Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
Kieren is passionate about patient safety and vision outcomes, sitting on the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Refractive Surgery Working Group, a committee tasked with enhancing standards and ensuring thorough accreditation for Refractive Surgeons wishing to treat in the UK.
As an honorary lecturer at the University of Bristol, Kieren actively teaches and runs a successful Corneal and Refractive fellowship programme at Bristol Eye Hospital. This enables Surgeons from around the world to benefit from 12 months of learning advanced surgical techniques. He also leads and lectures at many local and international instructional courses regarding Corneal, Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
He has introduced new, improved techniques of corneal transplantation to Bristol. These have resulted in a change in corneal transplant surgery in the South-West, offering patients significant improvements in visual outcomes.
Kieren is regularly involved in clinical research and investigations, publishing in multiple journals internationally. This directly benefits his patients, often gaining individuals early access to new treatments.
Living locally in Bristol with his family, Kieren is very active, completing marathons, cycling sportives and Ironman™ competitions.
