Mr Demetri Manasses

Demetri has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust since 2016 and leads the glaucoma service at the renowned Bristol Eye Hospital, the largest unit in the South West.  He has performed thousands of glaucoma and cataract procedures and is responsible for introducing many of the most recent innovations in glaucoma treatment to the NHS service.  These include Minimally Invasive Glaucoma surgery (MIGs) and Minimally Invasive Bleb surgery.

Following his ophthalmology training in the South West, Demetri undertook subspecialist glaucoma fellowships in NHS hospitals in Cheltenham, Bristol and Manchester.

His interests include cataract surgery, surgical innovation in glaucoma surgery, the management of complex secondary glaucoma and continued commitment in the delivery of care to patients.

Demetri also teaches and is the Specialty Tutor responsible for ophthalmic training in the Bristol Eye Hospital. He has also undertaken a post-graduate research fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.

A proud Bristolian, Demetri lives in the city and in his spare time plays for his local cricket team and is learning the ukelele and a continued commitment in delivery of high level care to patients.
