At Vision Care Clinic, our goal is to give you the best possible vision using the latest advancements in lens replacement surgery. Whether you’re seeking to correct cataracts or be free from glasses, we’re here to ensure you can see clearly and comfortably. However, it’s essential to understand that even with state-of-the-art technology, not every patient will achieve the very best result result immediately. The good news? Laser enhancements are available at Vision Care Clinic to fine-tune your vision, ensuring you achieve your desired results.
Why Laser Enhancements May Be Needed
Lens replacement surgery, including procedures like cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange (RLE), is highly effective for most patients, and the majority of people see dramatic improvements in their vision after surgery. However, there is a small percentage, around 8% of patients, who may not achieve perfect visual acuity right after the procedure, even with the most advanced preoperative measurements and equipment.
Factors like the shape of the eye, the healing process, and the natural variability of each patient’s anatomy can contribute to slight differences in the final visual outcome. While the vast majority of patients are satisfied with their vision following surgery, it’s not uncommon for a minor enhancement to be required.
This is where laser enhancements come in. These are precise, non-invasive procedures that can fine-tune your vision after lens replacement surgery, ensuring that you reach the best possible result.
How Laser Enhancements Work
Laser enhancements are an effective and minimally invasive option to refine the results of your lens replacement surgery. These enhancements use advanced excimer laser technology, to make small, precise adjustments to the cornea, at the very front of the eye.
If the initial lens replacement surgery didn’t fully correct your refractive error (such as shortsight, longsight, or astigmatism), a laser enhancement procedure can tweak the way light travels along the optical pathway, to achieve optimal focus. The procedure typically takes just a few minutes and is done on an outpatient basis, meaning you can return home the same day.
Why Laser Enhancements Are Preferred Over Secondary Lenses
While it is possible to insert a secondary lens into the eye to further correct vision after cataract or lens replacement surgery, for such small adjustments and whenever possible, we always recommend laser enhancements. Inserting a secondary lens does correct vision, but it’s not always as effective as a laser adjustment and carries a higher risk of complications.
The final quality of vision with a secondary lens often doesn’t match the clarity and precision achieved with a laser enhancement. Additionally, the risks associated with placing a second lens in the eye (such as higher chances of infection, lens dislocation, or damage to the eye) are greater than those involved with a laser enhancement.
At Vision Care Clinic, we prioritise your safety and optimal results. Laser enhancements offer the best balance of precision, low risk, and excellent final vision quality, making them the preferred option for those patients needing further refractive adjustment.
