Mr Sidath Liyanage is a Consultant Ophthalmologist who specialises in cataract surgery; vitreoretinal surgery on conditions including macular holes, epiretinal membranes and retinal detachment surgery; and medical treatment of retinal conditions (medical retina), including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and vascular disorders of the retina.
Mr Liyanage studied medicine at University College London, qualifying third in his year with distinctions. It was during this time that he also won the Duke Elder undergraduate prize examination, held by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for aspiring ophthalmologists.
He underwent his ophthalmic specialist training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Upon completion of his training, he was awarded the Harcourt medal by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for first place in their international consultant examinations.
He is currently an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol and participates in clinical research trials on new treatments for medical retinal conditions such as macular degeneration. Mr Liyanage is a highly qualified and caring Ophthalmologist who works in a very clear and open manner, taking care to alleviate any patient concerns.
